the Passion of the Christ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering... But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:3,5 i took my small group to see the movie last night. it is still difficult to put into words what i feel. overall, this movie was a good movie to watch. i am aware that it strikes up a lot of controversy in and outside the christian circle. but this is not surprising. as i have been focusing my small group on the life of Jesus this semester, i have been learning that Jesus WAS, and still is, a controversial person. if he was not controversial, he would not have been who he was: the Christ, seeking to bring a new kingdom and a new order to this world. although the blood and violence was a little hard on my stomach, i believe that this depiction was real in the sense that it showed how Jesus was not only fully God, but also fully human, which makes his suffering and his sacrifice all the more painful and real. as a believer watching this movie, i was reminded that this really did happen. maybe the details were different, but Jesus DID die. an innocent man, he suffered and was condemned to death because of and for US. at the core, this movie should make us remember that we are undeserving of this act of love. that if things were really just, WE would be the ones nailed to that cross. and yet, Jesus took our place. i am grateful, in awe of how gracious our God is. i hope that if you have watched the movie, you will take a moment to reflect what it means to you, and what it means for this world. engage in discussion with your friends, and seek to understand the significance of the passion of Jesus Christ. if you have not yet seen it, i won't tell you that you MUST go watch it, but i think it would be helpful, if you are asking questions about who Jesus is, or if you need to be reminded of who it is you've committed your life to. i would suggest you at least consider watching it. take a moment to thank our Lord Jesus Christ, for his death, his payment for our sins, his love. He truly is our Savior.
